The Shelby County Wildcats went on the road to down undefeated Chelsea 14-0 in a rain soaked edition of

Friday night football.

&uot;That was a big one for us,&uot; said

SCHS head football coach Geoff Walters. &uot;It took us to 3-0 in the region.&uot;

And, he said, after a contest

on the road with county opponent Vincent this Friday night, it sets a &uot;big stage&uot; for a home game regional encounter with Corner on Oct. 4.

Both Chelsea and Shelby County were 2-0 in regional play prior to last Friday’s action. But the Wildcats entered the contest at

2-1 overall while the Hornets were a perfect 3-0.

Walters called the victory over Chelsea &uot;just a team effort.&uot;

He praised his defense and said the offensive line opened some big holes. But Walters said of his team, &uot;We don’t have any (individual) standouts.&uot;

The Wildcats scored on a 7-yard run by Michael Gaiters and a point after kick by Eric Hernandez and on an 11-yard run by Derek Harris and PAT by Hernandez.

Shelby County

completed three of seven passes for 29 yards

and rushed 44 times for 312 yards for a total offensive effort of 341 yards.

Chelsea completed 13 passes for 18 yards and rushed 33 times for 87 yards for a total offensive effort of 105 yards.

Both teams fumbled twice and punted twice for a 27-yard average by the Wildcats and a 26.5 yard average by the Hornets.
