The Calera Eagles are flying high following a 62-6 romp of region foe R.C. Hatch on the road last Friday night.

The win improved Calera to 4-0 on the year and 3-0 in region play. The Eagles will next face 1-A Thorsby (1-3), a team which CHS head coach Ken Adams said will pose a tough challenge for his team.

&uot;Thorsby is better than its record,&uot; Adams said. &uot;They have played some quality opponents. They are not a region game, so we are trying to keep our kids focused on the task at hand &045; beating Thorsby.&uot;

Adams said Thorsby is a well-coached team.

&uot;Coach Alan Wilson has done a great job for that program,&uot; Adams said. &uot;Our kids know that when the whistle blows, they are going to get after us.&uot;

Adams said a victory over Thorsby will be bitter sweet.

&uot;Alan is a great fiend of mine, so I want him to win every game except the one in week No. 5.&uot;

The Eagles will return to Class 2-A and region play when they play host to Keith for homecoming in two weeks.

Seven Calera runners combined for 252 yards and two quarterbacks threw for a total of 164 yards in the Eagles’ convincing win last Friday night.

&uot;Once again, this was a complete and total team effort,&uot; Adams said. &uot;The kids and the coaching staff want to thank all of the fans, cheerleaders, band members and parents for making the trip last week, and hope they will do the same again this week when we travel to Thorsby.&uot;

CHS got on the board first when C.J. Pearson caught a 69-yard pass from Jay Haynes. Michael Ellison hit Cory Merritte on the two point conversion to the give the Eagles an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

CHS added to that lead in the first quarter

when Ellison returned an interception 56 yards for a score. Ellison hit Corey Turnbloom on the two point conversion and the Eagles were up 16-0. Lewis McNeal scored CHS’ third touchdown in the first quarter on an 11-yard run. Goggins tacked on the PAT to give Calera a 23-0 lead.

Calera capped the scoring in the first quarter when John Adams rambled in from 10 yards out. Goggins’ PAT gave the Eagles a comfortable 30-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

McNeal struck again, this time from 18 yards out in the second quarter. The missed PAT left the Eagles up 36-0.

C.J. Pearson added to the lead with a 55-yard scoring run later in the second period. Goggins’ PAT gave the Eagles a 43-0 lead heading into the locker room at the half.

CHS picked up where it left off in the third period when Wayne Burns scored on a 28-yard run. The PAT failed leaving the score at 49-0 at the end of the third.

David Lacey added to the huge Calera lead in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard scoring run. Goggins’ PAT gave the Eagles a 56-0 lead.

Mike Watts ended the scoring for the Eagles on a 70-yard scoring strike to Mike Ryan midway through the last quarter of play. The PAT failed, giving CHS a 62-0 lead.

R.C. Hatch scored its only touchdown of the game with 1:31 remaining. Hatch scored on a 30-yard pass which was tipped by two Calera defenders.

Haynes had 3 rushes for 50 yards; McNeal 3-for-29, 2 touchdowns; Adams 3-for-30, 1 touchdown; Pearson 1-for-55, 1 touchdown; Burns 4-for-51, 1 touchdown; and Lacy 4-for-10, 1 touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball Adams recorded 14 tackles and Merritte 8 tackles and one interception. The defense allowed Hatch just 145 yards
