The Thompson Warriors fell after a tough one Friday night.

The Warriors faced Class 5A top-ranked Homewood, losing the match 42-14.

Homewood got off to a quick start, scoring 30 unanswered points in the first half.

Thompson showed some life at the beginning of the third quarter, however, when Homewood fumbled on the Patriots’ 28 yard line and senior Owen Griffin recovered the ball for the Warriors.

THS quarterback Brett Rushing scored on second and seven from the 12 yard line. The extra point failed, and the score was 30-6, with Homewood still in the lead.

The Warriors recovered an onside kick on the next play and began a drive from their own 38 yard line.

Rushing scored a few plays later on first and goal from the 4 yard line. The Warriors’ two-point conversion attempt was successful, and THS pulled to within 16 points in the third quarter.

That would be the last points for Thompson, however, as Homewood went on to score a safety on a bad snap by the Warriors, a field goal and another touchdown.

Thompson rushed 36 times for 136 yards to Homewood’s 39 times for 229 yards. The Warriors attempted four passes with no completions.

The team fumbled three times and lost the ball twice.

Thompson faces West End High at home next Friday
