Raiders fall to Central; take second in region

The Shelby Academy Raiders lost a heartbreaking, 1-point game to Central Academy of Selma last Friday night at home.

Andrew Elm finished the night with 127 yards on just 10 carries along with a touchdown in the loss, while twin brother Ryan had 89 yards on 12 carries and a score.

Andrew Elm also threw for 56 yards on 4-of12 passing.

Turnovers proved to be the downfall of the Raiders, who will finish the season second in their region and host the first round of the playoffs.

The Shelby Academy fumbled 5 times on the night, losing 4 to Central. Central turned the ball over twice &045; one on an interception and one on a fumble.

Central got on the board first in the opening period of play. The PAT gave Central a 7-0 lead heading into the second quarter of play.

Andrew Elm found paydirt before the half. The failed PAT left Shelby Academy trailing 7-6 at halftime.

Shelby took the lead in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run by Ryan Elm. The PAT failed, leaving the Raiders ahead 12-7.

Central scored late in the fourth quarter to claim the win. The failed PAT left the final score 13-12.

Mike Childress finished the night with 52 yards on 13 carries. Childress also recorded 13 tackles on the night.

The Raiders (7-2) close out the regular season at home against Kingwood (0-9) Friday night
