Cupid was not on the side of the Thompson Warriors on Valentine’s Day.

The Warriors’ season ended with a heartbreaking 54-53 loss to Homewood in Class 5A Sub-regional action last Friday night.

Homewood drained a 26-foot three-pointer with 3.4 seconds remaining on the clock to claim the one-point win and a trip to the Southwest Regional at the University of South Alabama in Mobile this week.

The Warriors ended the season with an 11-18 mark.

Kyle Hicks paced Thompson in the loss with 12 points.

Tony Bell and Kenny Mahone each chipped in 10 points for Thompson in the loss. Freddie Brackin recorded six assists.

The game was nip-and-tuck the entire way with one point separating the two teams at the end of each period.

THS took an 11-10 lead at the end of the first and Homewood clung to a 25-24 lead at the half.

Homewood also had a one-point lead at the end of the third at 41-42.
