It wasn’t love in the air, but fear that they could be blown into it, that left them weak in the knees.

Students waited for hours at nearby Thompson Middle School while police searched the school after an early morning bomb threat on Feb. 14.

After a lengthy investigation, a THS student accused of making the threat was arrested last week.

At the time of the threat, Shelby County Schools Superintendent Evan Major said the culprit would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as well he should.

A bomb threat is no prank. It is a serious crime and as Major said a &uot;total disruption in our instructional process.&uot;

Not only does an idle bomb threat cause undue fear, it also ties up valuable resources.

Law enforcement officials called to investigate the threat are drawn away from other important matters.

It would also be a terrible consequence if someone &uot;crying wolf&uot; dulled the response to a real emergency situation in the future.
