It was a matter of kids coming together to help kids.

About 30 young adults and children from Alabaster recently participated in the creation of

a Christian CD entitled &uot;From Our Heart 24/7&uot; to benefit Kids First Awareness Coalition Community Center

in Alabaster, said center director Cindy Hawkins.

Hawkins said Gary S. Paxton of GARPAX Music Group Inc. of Branson, Mo., allowed Kids First to use six of his songs on the CD, and she wrote two songs of her own.

A CD release party was held at the center this past Saturday.

The CD was produced by Oscar and Cindy Hawkins of Kids First.

And among the selections are &uot;Love Comes In All Colors,&uot; &uot;Are You Making A Difference In Someone’s Life&uot; and Hawkins’ own &uot;God’s Got A Plan For Your Life.&uot;

Hawkins said the title comes from the belief that &uot;In order to share God’s full blessing, he must live in our hearts 24 hours a day, seven days a week.&uot;

She said the CD was produced at Southern Hills Church on Kent Dairy Road in Alabaster where Tim Tuerino is pastor and Westwood Baptist Church on Thompson Road in Alabaster where Les Hughes is pastor.

Todd Rosser of Pelham mastered the CD.

According to Hawkins, $10 from the purchase price of each CD will come to the center. And she said the center hopes to use the funds to purchase a new computer.

The Kids First center is located in the public housing community of Alabaster and provides homework assistance and substance abuse information in a safe after-school setting.

The center evolved from an annual Kids Day event program which was started in Alabaster to teach drug and violence awareness.

During the annual events, teachers, pastors, city and community leaders, as well as elected public officials encourage youngsters to stay in school and avoid drugs and violence in an atmosphere of live gospel music, free food, hayrides and more.

&uot;We feel in our hearts these words of encouragement from our leaders show the children they care about them and their future. If one child listens and says, ‘That person made it, I can, too,’ saving one child would make a difference in our world,&uot; Cindy Hawkins said.

The Christian CD to benefit Kids First is available at Amen Corner in Pelham or Come to The Water Christian Bookstore in Alabaster.
