SOCCER DAY CAMPS

Sports Blast Shelby County is offering soccer day camps for boys and girls. Session 1 (June 16-20), Session 2 (June 23-27), Session 3 (July 7-11), Session 4 (July 14-18), Session 5 (July 21-25), and Session 6 (July 28-August 1). For ages 5-6: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and for ages 7-16: 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

All sessions are indoors (with air conditioning) and outdoors.

DAY CAMPS &

COOKOUTS

The Columbiana Parks and Recreation Board will sponsor five three-day camps and five community cookouts. The camps and cookouts are free to the public and will be organized and administered by the Shelby County High School coaching staff.

Community cookouts will be held June 26, July 10, July 17, July 24 and July 31 at the park pavilion at 7:30 p.m. each night. Baseball/softball camp will be held June 10-12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the field house.

Speed and weight training camp will be June 17-19 from 9 a.m. to noon at the field house. Basic gymnastics and tumbling camp will be June 24-26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the field house.

Net and racket sports camp and golf camp will be July 8-10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the field house.

Water games camp will be July 15-17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the field house. Water games include a balloon toss, water gun tag, slip and slide and a watermelon contest.

SOFTBALL, BASEBALL CLINICS

Cornerstone Christian School will be hosting softball and baseball camps in the coming weeks.

A baseball camp will be held at CCS for ages 7-12 June 11-13, and ages 13-15 June 18-20. The baseball clinics will also be held from 8:30 until noon at Cornerstone Christian School.

BASKETBALL CAMP

Oak Mountain High School will host a basketball camp July 7-10 for boys, second-fifth grade from 8:30 a.m.-noon and grades 6-9 from 1-4:30 p.m. Cost will be $65.

BASKETBALL CAMP

A basketball camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 will be held June 16-20 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Shelby County High School gymnasium.

Registration will be Saturday, June 14. Cost will be $30 per person with discounts available. Sessions for ages 10 and under will be from 9 a.m.-noon; ages 11 and older from 1-4 p.m.

All campers receive a T-shirt and medallion. Individual skills will be stressed and camp counselors are college players. Call Mike Dozier at 669-1619 for information.

GOLF TOURNEY

The &uot;Duffers for Dogs&uot; Ribeye Golf Tournament benefiting the Shelby County Human Society will be held Saturday, July 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Montevallo Golf Club.

Proceeds from the tournament will help further the mission of the Humane Society, which is to care for homeless, abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

Entry fee is $45 per golfer, which includes cart and green fee, prizes and a ribeye steak dinner with baked potato, salad and drink.

Format for play is a two-man scramble and mulligans will be available.

If unable to participate, donations to the Humane Society will be greatly appreciated.

GOLF TOURNEY

The Montevallo Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held at the Montevallo Golf Club on Sat., July 26 beginning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The tournament will be played in foursomes with two man teams using handicaps. Price is $49 per person and includes cart, green fee and a &uot;fresh off the grill&uot; meal.

YOUTH SWIMMING

The Youth Summer Swimming Program offered by UM offers classes for ages 9 months-23 months; 2-3 years; 4-5 years; and 6 and up.

Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings through June 26.

WATER FITNESS CLASSES

Classes will be held Jun 17-August 28 (22 classes) for $110 per person.

Class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 at UM’s McCall Pool. Instructor is Judith Crowe.

Morning classes will be held Monday and Wednesday from 7-8 a.m. now through Aug. 13.

Morning weight training classes are scheduled for June 10-August 12 from 7-8 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Cost is $110 per person and $100 if over 65 or taking both of Dr. Miller’s classes. Dr. Carolyn Miller is the instructor.

SOFTBALL TOURNEY

The 9th Annual Jay Booth Memorial Softball Game Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at Pea Ridge Park on Hwy. 10.

Fire department softball teams will begin play at 8 a.m. Concessions will be sold. Funds benefit the Pea Ridge Fire Department.
