Three killed in accidents

Two Columbiana men were killed last week in a one-vehicle accident about seven miles east of Columbiana.

According to Alabama State Troopers, the accident occurred at 8 p.m. last Wednesday seven miles east of Columbiana on Highway 145 in Shelby County.

Killed in the accident were driver Jason Michael Conn, 24, of Columbiana and passenger James Epperson, 24, also of Columbiana.

According to County Coroner Doug Ballard, the victims of the accident were pronounced dead at the scene at about 8:39 p.m.

&uot;The amount of damage done to the car and to the guard rail would indicate that significant speed was involved in the accident,&uot; Ballard said.

The accident remains under investigation however.

A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old and injured two other juveniles near Chelsea on Saturday.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Lacy Newman, 16, of Chelsea was killed as a passenger in a 1993 Nissan 300ZX.

Injured in the accident were the 16-year-old driver and a 14-year-old passenger, also of Chelsea.

Both were transported to University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.

Troopers report the accident, which remains under investigation, occurred at 7:40 p.m. one mile northeast of Chelsea on Highway 461 in Shelby County.

Shelby County Coroner Doug Ballard said Newman was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:10 p.m
