The Central Alabama Renegades improved their 2003 North American Football League (NAFL) record to 2-0 with a victory over the Georgia Tigers of Valdosta.

Cornerback Andre Letren was named as Defensive Player of the Week.

Letren intercepted two Tigers’ passes, one setting up a Renegade score.

Free safety Calvin Rooks also had an outstanding performance recording 11 tackles, including three solos. Rooks also intercepted a pass.

Tailback Antonio Parker was named as Offensive Player of the Week.

Parker rushed for 116 yards on 11 carries and caught a pass.Quarterback J.R. Richardson of Calera also had a good game completing 7-of-15 for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Kicker Kevin Jones was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Jones not only hit a 40-yard field goal to open the scoring in the game but also hit 2-of-3 PATs. As an added bonus Kevin was also forced to punt due to an injury to his brother, Keith Jones, who usually handles the punting duties.

The Renegades would strike first in the first quarter on a 40 yard field goal by Kevin Jones.

The field goal was set up by a 53-yard Punt by Jones, which pinned the Georgia Tigers inside their own 5 yard line.

The Renegades defense held the Tigers to three plays and out, which gave the Renegades good field position and set up the field goal.

In second quarter cornerback Andre Letren would pick off a Tigers’ pass and return it 51 yards to the 24 yard line to set up the Renegades next score.

On the next play from scrimmage Richardson connected with wide receiver Danny Keicher of Calera for the score and Kevin Jones would add the extra point.

The first half would end with the score at 10-0.

In the third quarter both teams would drive the ball only to be stopped by turnovers.

The fourth quarter would be a different story, however, with the Renegades scoring twice to put the game out of reach.

The first of the two touchdowns would come on a 45-yard pass from Richardson to Rodrice Merkerson. The second

would come on a 1-yard run by Jovan Wilson.

With the 23-0 victory the Renegades move to 2-0 and looked to return home last Sunday when they played host to the Tennessee Gladiators at Stanley-Jensen Stadium in Prattville
