Shelby County’s McGill wins at CAS

Two Shelby County residents brought home trophies and at Central Alabama Speedway just outside of Clanton over the weekend.

Dale McGill of Columbiana and Terry Bradshaw of Calera took first and third place, respectively, in pony class action last Saturday night at the track just seven miles west of Clanton.

Jeffery Berkley rounded out the top three in pony class action.

Shawn Carlee of Helena finished in a close second behind winner Jake Wilson in the pure stack class race. Brandon Sledge rounded out the top three.

Close racing in the hobby class was the racing event of the evening with several lead changes leading to a tight race to the checkered flag.

Stanley Littleton was the leader most of the race until a mishap in turns three and four. C.R. took the win with Steven McDonald and Tim McDonald rounding out the top three.

Phillip Higginbotham took the win on the dixie lightening class, racing as the leader from flag to flag. Justin McRee claimed second while Tony Gray rounded out the top three.

The battle for second and third place in the street stock division was hard fought. Ken Lawrence was the winner while Trett Johnson and Jeff Honeycutt rounded out the top three.

Other Shelby County racers at the track included Kevin Evans of Calera, Rusty Carlee of Columbiana and Willis Scurlock of Calera.

Kyle Smith, Haley Little, Brian Nichols and Caitlyn Price were winners in the 3-, 4- and 5-year-old bike races. Trey Sports, Eric Finley and Justin Caudle were winners in the 6-, 7- and 8-year-old division; Thomas Riley, Jeremy Cantrell and Steven Payne in the 9-, 10- and 11-year-old division; and John Cantrell, Trahe Smith and Steven Payne in the 12 and up division.

Central Alabama Speedway races every Saturday night at 7:30 and is located 7 miles west of Clanton. August is an action-packed month at the track with winged sprints featured on Aug. 9 and vintage cars on Aug. 16.
