Williamson named first year teacher of year

Ashley Gwin Williamson is Shelby County’s First Year Teacher of the Year.

Shelby County School Superintendent Evan Major recognized Williamson at the board’s regular meeting last week.

According to Major, Williamson teachers kindergarten at Creek View Elementary.

She is a 1998 graduate of Thompson High School and did her student teaching at Thompson Intermediate School.

In addition, she worked a short term maternity leave at Vincent Elementary.

Major said Williamson graduated magna cum laude with honors in elementary education from Jacksonville State University where she was a member of Phi Mu social sorority.

Williamson said she was happy to survive her first year of teaching.
