Shelby County schools offer fall adult ed classes

Stained Glass I:

This six -week class is for the novice &045; no art experience necessary. You will learn the basics of the Tiffany Foil method, including glass cutting, foiling, soldering and framing techniques.

One small copper foiled panel will be constructed. The supply list will be discussed during the first class. The purchase of tools is optional, since they will be provided at each class.

Remaining dates are

Thursdays, Nov. 6 – Dec. 11. Registration deadline Oct. 31.

Times are 10 a.m. to noon for the morning class and 6-8 p.m.

for the evening class.

The instructor is Karen Jacobs; the fee is $75; and the site is the Shelby County Instructional Services Center on Highway 31 in Alabaster.

Stained Glass II

This six-week class is for those who have completed Stained Glass I and participants will continue to refine stained glass skills by constructing a larger project.

To begin working in the first class, choose pattern and glass prior to the first class. Cost of tools and supplies will depend on the project. Those with stained glass tools should bring them to class. Remaining dates are Tuesdays, Nov. 4 – Dec. 9.

Registration deadline is Oct. 28.

Morning classes are 10 a.m.

to noon and evening classes meet from 6-8 p.m.

fee is $75; and site is the Shelby County Instructional Services Center.

Workshops

During these workshops, participants will construct a stained glass night-light or a standing stained glass angel.

Basic stained glass cutting skills are required. Bring safety glasses to class as well as basic tools such as cutters, pliers and soldering irons. Tools will also be available in the workshops.

Choose one or both workshops and learn new stained glass skills. Each workshop is one evening for two hours, limited to ages 16 and older.

Angel dates are Oct. 6 or Nov. 10 from 6-10 p.m.; and registration deadline is Nov. 3.

Nightlight dates are Oct. 27 or Dec. 1 from 6-8 p.m.; and

registration deadlines are Oct. 20 and Nov. 24.

Stained Glass for Kids

In the kids only seminar, participants will make a real stained glass holiday suncatcher to keep or give as a gift. No experience is necessary, and everything will be supplied in class. This class is for children, ages 10 to 14.

Christmas Suncatcher class

will be offered Saturday, Nov. 22 from 1-3:30 p.m.

Financial Seminars

Learn about

financial topics by taking a course offered by financial advisers from American Express. Registration deadline is one week before the class. Class is &uot;ROTH IRA, What’s Right for You&uot; on Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m. Fee is $10, and the site is the Shelby County Instructional Services Center.

Conversational Spanish

This four-week course will teach basic Spanish phrases including sentence structure, which will enable you to communicate more effectively with Spanish-speaking residents.

Dates are Saturdays, Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration deadline is Oct. 27.
