The Alabaster City Council was expected to meet after presstime Tuesday to consider approving land deals that could end the city’s eminent domain battle with private land owners.

Eight of 10 families involved in the eminent domain battle over property for an Alabaster shopping center agreed Monday to sell their land to the city and Shelby Land Partners.

The shopping center will be located in the Interstate 65 Exit 238 area.

City officials have not yet determined whether they will pursue the remaining acreage, according to reports.

Colonial Properties Trust hopes to build an 800,000-square-foot shopping center on about 400 acres of property at the intersection.

The city of Alabaster has also planned a municipal building for the property.

In August, Alabaster began eminent domain proceedings against the 10 families.
