They should have been in Vegas.

Montevallo got seven hits from seven players and seven strong innings from Katie Jones in knocking off Chelsea 7-0 last week in county softball action.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

Lauren Stephens laced a single up the middle and Melissa Staffney’s subsequent bunt attempt was misplayed.

Dee Dee Ray then singled home Stephens, and one out later, Haley Dennis drove home two more runs.

While MHS was held scoreless for the next four innings, Jones was holding the Hornets at bay, retiring 15 of 16 batters through the middle innings.

Montevallo padded the lead with four more runs in the sixth. Amy Boyd drew a leadoff walk and was bunted to second by Stephens.

Staffney and Jones would both drive in runs later in the inning, while Ashley Lightfoot ripped a two-out shot into left field to end the scoring.

Twillie Cottingham picked up the other Lady Bulldog hit, as Jones went the distance on the mound, giving up just two hits and striking out six.
