Thompson High School opened last week’s Hoover Buccaneer tournament with a 15-5 loss to Austin, but the Warriors bounced back, knocking off their next four opponents on their way to the tournament’s title game.

Thompson (11-14) defeated Hartselle, Hoover, Demopolis and Cullman last week before finally falling again to Austin in Thursday’s championship game.

Ryan Chase pitched a complete game as the Warriors downed Hartselle, 7-3.

Nick Harris was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and one RBI.

Sophomore Stuart Heidel, pulled up for the tournament from the junior varsity squad, was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and one RBI. He finished the tournament with four RBIs.

Pitcher Austin Lucas allowed just four hits in a complete game win against Hoover. The Warriors defeated the host Bucs 5-2.

Chris Myles was 2-for-4 with one RBI while Robert Schofield and Nick Harris each had one hit and 1 run for the Warriors. Chase also had one hit, 1 run and one RBI.

Thompson scored 10 runs, a team high for the tournament, against Demopolis last Wednesday to give Malachi Gandy a 10-4 win.

Gandy fanned eight batters and recorded the complete-game win for the Warriors. He also had a big day at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a homerun, three RBIs and 1 runs scored.

Harris and Nick Seagle also each hit home runs for THS.

Chase went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Chase Myles had three RBIs.

The Warriors beat Cullman 6-3 behind a 3-for-3 day at the plate for Chris Robbins. Myles went 2-for-3 with two doubles and 2 runs scored and Gandy had two RBIs.

Austin defeated the Warriors for the second time last week in a five-inning, 12-2 victory in the tournament’s championship game.

Thompson was 3-1 in area play before yesterday’s game with McAdory. Results were unavailable at presstime.

Montevallo baseball

Montevallo High School picked up a big win over the weekend by knocking off Class 3A power Phil Campbell on Saturday.

Zac Stansell picked up the win for Montevallo (3-14) as the Bulldogs went on to win 11-8. Stansell struck out four and gave up five hits in four and one-third innings. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Taylor Gaddis picked up his second save of the season in relief.

Corey Lovelady went 3-for-4 with three runs, two walks and three runs scored.

Pitcher Jeffrey McGraw (1-4) went seven innings but suffered the loss to Holt last Friday. McGraw allowed five runs on six hits and struck out nine batters in the loss. He also went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

A.J. Ward went 1-for-3 with with two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Thompson softball

The Lady Warriors improved their record to 18-8 in last week’s spring break tournament in Gulf Shores.

Nicole Lowery went 2-for-4 with three RBIs as Miranda Bryan pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Thompson to a 12-0 win against Morgan County.

Sarah Hill went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Katie McGuire went 2-for-4 with one RBI as the Lady Warriors beat Pleasant Home 7-1.

Thompson defeated Baldwin County 4-2 as Amber Crabb knocked in two runs at the plate. Sarah Wilson pitched a complete game in the win.

The Lady Warriors routed Colbert County 10-1 as Ashley Blankenship went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Bryan had a big day at the plate and on the mound as she went 2-for-2 wtih three RBIs and also pitched a complete game.

After falling to Huntsvillle and ACA, Thompson was scheduled to play McAdory yesterday. Results were not available at presstime
