Four suspects were arrested in connection with the March 11 recovery of nine pounds of pharmaceutical painkillers in Harpersville.

The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force charged two owners of a Childersburg pharmacy with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, a felony.

Robert John Hagan and Suzanne Craft Hagan, owners of Hagan Pharmacy in Childersburg, were arrested after task force investigators identified their business as the source of the drugs.

William Edward Morgan and Vivian Bonita Morgan of Tarrant were also arrested for the same charges.

Capt. Ken Burchfield of the drug task force declined to say what role the Morgans played in the crime.

Investigators from the task force along with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy Investigators, inspected Hagan Pharmacy on Monday, March 22.

As a result of that investigation, Robert Hagan surrendered his pharmacist’s license, and Suzanne Hagan surrendered her pharmacist technician’s license, according to authorities. The drug store is closed pending further investigation, according to authorities.

The four arrests came in connection to a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 280 in Harpersville on March 11. Joseph Ray Eddins of Mentone was stopped driving a van, not registered in his name, according to Sgt. Scott Baggett of the Harpersville Police Department. Baggett and Harpersville Police Officer Barry Wathen searched the van and found Lortab and Lorcet prescription painkiller pills concealed within the van.

Eddins was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
