The Montevallo City is in hopes of using a portion of the old Highway 119 Shoal Creek Bridge for use with a walking trail.

The council recently approved a resolution to ask the state Highway Department to leave a support for the old Highway 119 Shoal Creek Bridge in place to create a walking trail to an island in the creek.

Councilmember Greg Pendleton reported that part of Shelby Street will be paved, there will be improvements on Railroad Avenue and both signage and markings will be placed at MillSource on Railroad Avenue

to let the public know of traffic congestion and pedestrian crossings.

Pendleton also reported on parking problems at St. Andrews

Episcopal Church due to high school students. He recommended one handicap space and a two hour parking limit on the westside on Plowman between Oak and Highland Street.

Councilmember Paul Brown reported that the Norfolk Southern railroad has agreed to sell an easement yon Motley Avenue to the city for $3,500 to allow paving of the street.

Gibbs said the residents of the street will pay the city back for half the cost. The

council filled three board vacancies and carried the nomination of another over to its second April meeting.

The council carried over the nomination of Claude Ellege for reappointment to the Water Board to the April 26 meeting. His current term ended Feb. 10.

Councilmember Bob Lightfoot nominated Don Clayton for reappointment to the Board of Adjustments. His current term ended March 11.

The council approved reappointments for Herman Peoples and Mike Harmon to the Board of Adjustments. Both their current terms ended March 11.

And the council approved the nomination of James Hunt to Park and Recreation Board No. 2 replaced Eddye Lawley.

Henry Emfinger told the council that he has received permission to restore the convict cemetery on Prison Hill in Aldridge
