At least one team in the AHSAA Class 6A state championship game will come from the valley of Double Oak Mountain.

Pelham and Oak Mountain both won their respective best-of-three quarterfinal series last weekend to set up a Shelby County showdown in the semifinals, assuring at least one county team in the state championship series.

Pelham defeated Hueytown 4-1 and 3-2 in quarterfinal action over the weekend.

Clinton Ancelet started the first game for Pelham and pitched six innings for the win. James Goble came in and retired the last batter for the Panthers.

Shaun Sheehan, who signed a scholarship with Tennessee Tech last week, recorded the win for Pelham in the second game.

Oak Mountain split two weekend games with Clay-Chalkville, losing the first 3-1 and then winning the second 6-5.

The third game of the series, originally scheduled for Saturday, was postponed due to heavy thunderstorms.

The game was rescheduled for Monday night and the Eagles picked up the win, 7-3, behind junior pitcher Clint Jones.
