The earth shook beneath Helena and Alabaster for the second time this year early Sunday morning during what will go down as one of the most active seismographic periods in Shelby County’s history.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 3.3 magnitude earthquake at about 3:56 a.m.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

According to the USGS, the quake centered about seven miles southwest of Helena and eight miles west of Alabaster.

The quake was felt primarily in Helena, but most residents likely slept through the early morning shake-up.

Sunday’s quake followed a March 20 earthquake with a 2.8 magnitude.

That quake occurred about four miles west of Helena, also with no reports of injuries or damage
