Shelby County’s Republican voters will return to the polls next Tuesday for the primary run-off election.

The primary was held June 1; but several of the races were close enough for run-offs.

Run-offs are held in an election when the top vote-getter receives less than 50 percent of the vote.

Shelby County voters may see three of those races on their ballots next Tuesday, June 29.

On the ballot throughout Shelby County will be the race for District Court Judge Place No. 1. This juvenile court judgeship will be vacated by longtime Shelby County Judge Patti Smith, who won her bid to be the Republican nominee for the Alabama Supreme Court Place 2.

Voters must choose between Jim Kramer and Corey Moore for the position. Kramer and Moore were the two top vote-getters during the June 1 primary election with Kramer receiving 40 percent and Moore receiving 20 percent.

Only one of the Shelby County Commission seats is still up for grabs. The race pits incumbent Jimmy Bice against political newcomer Jon Parker. In the June 4 primary, Bice received 44 percent of the votes to Parker’s 39 percent.

The only other race on the Shelby County ballot is the race for State Board of Education District 3 seat, which covers portions of 11 counties.

The two top vote-getters in this race face off once again on Tuesday. Incumbent Stephanie Bell received 27 percent of the Shelby County vote and 47 percent of the statewide vote on June 4. Shelby County native John Draper received 49 percent of the county’s vote and 32 percent of the statewide vote.

Polls open at 7 a.m. next Tuesday and close at 7 p.m.
