Shelby County voters showed the state yet again why this is one of the most patriotic counties in the state during the June 1 primary election.

With a 20 percent turnout of registered voters on June 1, Shelby County chose its leaders with confidence. Statewide, only about 15 percent of registered voters exercised their democratic right by voting June 1. Primary elections generally attract fewer voters.

Now, the county voters have yet another call to duty. The primary run-off will be held next Tuesday, June 29. At stake are several important positions such as juvenile court judge, a county commission seat and a state board of education seat.

These run-off elections are held between the top two vote-getters in close elections when no single candidate grabs at least 50 percent of the vote. That’s why Tuesday’s election is important.
