AHSAA announces North-South teams

North-South Soccer

Sixty-nine outstanding junior soccer players from all over the state have been named to the North-South teams for the eighth annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week in Montgomery July 12-17, according to an announcement by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.

The two girls teams and two boys teams will square off in a Tuesday doubleheader (July 13) beginning with the girls game at 5 p.m. at the YMCA Soccer Complex. The boys contest begins at 7 p.m.

Sports Week, which also includes in-state all-star games in volleyball, baseball, basketball, football and softball, will feature clinic and special sessions for coaches, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. A product exposition and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week.

The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.

Several players and coaches from Shelby County were named to the North teams.

Chris Wilson of Oak Mountain was named as a coach for the North girls team and will coach players Melissa Holmes of Oak Mountain, Arrington Mooney of Briarwood, Lauren Vandiver of Thompson.

Derek Dearman of Oak Mountain was named as a coach of the North boys team and will coach Andrew Riley and William Gregory of Oak Mountain, David Elmer and Brad Smith of Briarwood, and Scott Shelton of Chelsea.

North-South Softball

Teams and coaches for the North-South softball teams were also announced by the AHSAA.

Both rosters are composed of upcoming seniors. The all-stars will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m.

Anna Cramer of Oak Mountain was named to the South team.

North-South Baseball

The AHSAA also recognized 36 of the top upcoming senior prep baseball players in the state for Alabama All-Star Sports Week.

The teams will open up the week’s all-star games on Monday, July 12, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
