Ethics complaints, reports of political signs being stolen, claims of bullet holes and people following the relatives of candidates… It looks like municipal elections in 2004 have taken a turn away from the issues toward attacks of character.

Elections are a time in which Americans get to do what the founding of this country is all about… choosing a government by the people, for the people and of the people. That means we get to fairly elect our leaders.

But

to make good decisions at the polls, the public must know what a candidate stands for. Is he or she for more taxes or less taxes? If more, what would the taxes be used for? If less, how would the government continue to operate at levels to provide the necessary services?

Is the candidate for residential and commercial growth or status quo?

The American system of democracy is at its highest visibility at the local level. We hope the candidates in this year’s municipal elections will tell the public what they will do rather than what is wrong with their opponents.
