Keep faith in Sheriff’s Department

When bad things happen, they seem to happen all at once.

That’s the feeling of employees at the Shelby County Jail.

Since May, there have been three suicides at the jail and another inmate died shortly after his release from the jail.

Questions swirl about the incidents, all of which have been turned over for investigation to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

The ABI will eventually make a report to the district attorney, who is then charged with presenting that information to a Shelby County Grand Jury.

Sheriff Chris Curry said, as always, procedures at the jail are under review.

If those procedures need to be changed, that decision is made and things change – in the old jail before early Monday morning and in the new now.

Curry and his staff work hard at doing their jobs in the best way they know how.

We urge Shelby County residents to keep faith in the department. They keep us safe – all of us, law-abiding or not
