Fresh off their first victory in 22 games, the Kingwood Lions’ hopes of starting a new winning streak were dashed by county-rival Cornerstone Christian Friday night.

The host Lions fell to the Chargers, 26-7.

Cornerstone rolled up 432 yards of total offense on the night, led by junior back Jamal Prentice.

Prentice carried 16 times for 208 yards and two touchdowns, inlcluding a first-quarter dash of 51 yards that gave the Chargers a lead they held the entire game. Prentice also threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Ty Youngblood who rushed nine times for 60 yards and another score.

CCS coach Tim Smith said the play of linebackers Wesley Criswell, Heath Smith and Beau Beggs was key in the win.

Austin Vinsant intercepted a pass for the Chargers and has now intercepted a pass in each of Cornerstone’s three games this season.

Kingwood’s only score came on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Pearce to tight end Lakin Spinks late in the second quarter.

Pearce finished the game 9-of-25 passing for 140 yards while Spinks also had a huge night on defense, racking up 20 tackles (10 solo, 10 assists).

Cornerstone travels to Marion to face MMI this Friday while Kingwood plays host to Abbeville
