Schools to take break

Except for Vincent, which has enjoyed breaks in its year-round school schedule, other Shelby County Schools will enjoy their first fall break next week, Oct. 11-15.

The fall break for all other Shelby County Schools coincides with the first intercession break for Vincent in the 2004-05 school calendars.

Shelby County School Superintendent Evan Major said the fall break was a good addition to the schools’ yearly calendar.

&uot;I think we’re all looking forward to it … students, teachers and staff.&uot;

&uot;It’s going to be a welcome break, maybe time to refocus and get ready for the next stretch.&uot; Major said, &uot;I’ve just heard a lot of positive things in anticipation for the break this year.&uot;

&uot;At this time, (the fall break decision) seems to be (a good one). I will tell you more after we see the entire calendar cycle.&uot;

Major pointed out, however, &uot;For 12 month employees like myself and others, many of us will continue working. And it will give people time to catch up on some

things and maintenance when people are not in the buildings.&uot;

Major concluded: &uot; I think it will serve a useful purpose.
