Calera man pleads guilty to child porn

A man arrested twice for child pornography pled guilty in federal court.

Chrisopher Edward Persall, 30, of Birmingham, pled guilty last week to three counts of a federal indictment charging him with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of receipt of child pornography.

According to Alice Martin, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Persall possessed child pornography in June 2002 in Jefferson County and in March 2004 in Blount County. Martin also claimed that Persall used his computer to receive child pornography via Internet web sites, email and through chat groups on the Internet.

Persall could receive a maximum of 35 years in prison, a fine of up to $75,000 and be placed under supervision of the court for the rest of his life following the completion of his prison term. Sentencing is scheduled for March 24, 2005, at 8:30 a.m. before Senior U.S. District Judge Robert Propst.

Law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Calera Police Department and the Blount County Sheriff’s Department.
