Calera police have arrested two suspects in the Dec. 10 slaying of a Bibb County man.

Jimmy Lamar Killingsworth Jr., 28, of Montevallo was charged with capital murder and a 16-year-old was charged as well, according to media reports.

Stephen Spears died following a shooting on state Highway 139 in Bibb County.

Officials have said Killingsworth and the juvenile followed Spears and his wife in their vehicle after they stopped at a Montevallo convenience store.

The couple were returning to Bibb County from a family gathering when shots were fired into their vehicle, police said.

Spears died on the scene, and Monica Spears, who tried to escape, was beaten with a chain.
