Clyburn shows strong at indoor track meets

Several Shelby County athletes appear primed for strong showings at the state indoor track meet after solid performances during recent competitions.

Two members of the Pelham track team placed at the LSU Classic in Baton Rouge, La.

Jason McMillan finished third in the men’s 1600 meter run with a time of 4:37 at the invitational, which featured competitors from around the southeast.

David Clyburn took second place in the high jump after clearing the bar at 6 feet, 6 inches. He also won the high jump at Saturday’s Northridge Indoor Invitational in Priceville.

Clyburn took the top position with a jump of 6-6.

Also placing at the Northridge Indoor Inivitational were Spain Park’s Chris Spear and Patrick Wells.

Spear broke the Class 6A indoor record and took first place when he cleared 15-2 in the pole vault.

Jaguars teammate Patrick Wells placed third with a

vault of 13-6.

Oak Mountain’s Mary Grace DeCastra finished third in the girls pole vault clearing 8-6.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association indoor state meet will be held Feb. 4-5 at the Valley Sports Colliseum in Priceville
