Defending the nest – Eagles fend off Pelham in Area 6 home game

Oak Mountain continued a staunch defense of its home court Friday night, downing Pelham, 58-34, in Class 6A, Area 6 action.

Micah McKinney had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 18-4 overall and 7-3 in area play with the win.

Andrew Chesney led Oak Mountain with 13 points while Chace Tomlinson pulled down four rebounds to go with his nine points and six assists.

Tyler Gallimore scored eight points with five assists and three steals.

Thompson 52, Oak Mountain 49: A 3-point shot at the final buzzer was just enough for the Thompson to upset the Eagles in Alabaster. Andrew Chesney scored 12 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals for OMHS. Bryant Gardner had eight points and three rebounds while Micah McKinney had six points and six rebounds for the Eagles.

Briarwood 51, Pelham 38: Larry Hedden had a triple-double for the Lions as they defeated Pelham on the road. Hedden scored 14 points to go along with 12 assists and 11 rebounds. Charles Hoke led Briarwood with 24 points.

Briarwood 63, Northridge 40: The Lions outscored Northridge 20-11 in the third period and added another 18 in the fourth to nail down the win at home. Charles Hoke led BCS with 20 points and nine rebounds. Larry Hedden had 10 points and seven assists for the Lions, who moved to 17-4 with the win.

Cornerstone 77, Bessemer 75: The AISA, Class 1A Chargers picked up the program’s first win over a 3A opponent behind 32 points from Ty Youngblood. Youngblood was 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Dustin Sheers had 15 points while Jamal Prentice and Beau Beggs each had 12 for Cornerstone. CCS improved to 13-2 with the win.

Cornerstone 62, Shelby 49: The Chargers had four players in double digits in the scoring column in a big rivalry win. Jonathan McKinney led with 15 points and five rebounds. Dustin Sheers scored 14 points with Ty Youngblood adding 13 and Jamal Prentice 12.

Cornerstone 64, Prattville 42: Ty Youngblood had 19 points and eight steals in the win over Prattville Christian at Faulkner University in Montgomery. Jonathan McKinney had 10 points and eight rebounds for Cornerstone
