The city of Chelsea is seeking public input on its future this Thursday.

City officials along with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham and 4SITE Inc. are hosting the meeting on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Chelsea High School auditorium.

The city is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan which will manage and guide new growth.

&uot;This management and guidance will provide directions that are cost effective, take advantage of the strong market opportunity for new growth and the associated fiscal advantage of an increased retail sales tax base,&uot; said Mayor Earl Niven.

Niven said the plan is intended to create an even stronger sense of place and promote the conservation and enhancement of important and sensitive environmental areas.

Niven said all residents are invited to the first public input meeting which he hopes will include community leaders, key board and commission members, agency and city council members as well as members of the community and property owners.

The results of the meeting will be documented to summarize the identified issues and the relative degree of importance assigned to each issue by the public.

&uot;These issues will provide an important foundation for the planning that follows,&uot; Niven said
