Public invited to hear Richard Shelby

Shelby County residents have the opportunity to dine with Sen. Richard Shelby this weekend.

Alabama’s senior senator will be in Calera for a breakfast meeting this Saturday, March 5. He will meet with residents at Donna’s Cafe beginning at 7:30 a.m. for a Dutch treat breakfast. The meeting is open to the public.

According to Shelby’s office, he will discuss important issues facing the state and the nation, and will also answer questions from the audience. He will also take time to discuss his agenda for the 109th session of Congress.

Since being elected to the Senate in 1986, Shelby has held at least one town hall meeting per year in each Alabama county.

&uot;Over the years, these meetings have provided an opportunity for area residents to listen and voice their opinions on the activities of our government,&uot; Shelby said.

Shelby is chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Transportation, Treasury and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee. In addition, he is a member of the full Appropriations Committee and the Special Committee on Aging.

Prior to Shelby’s election to the United States Senate, he served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and eight years in the Alabama legislature. He also served as a City Prosecutor in Tuscaloosa, U.S. Magistrate for the Northern District of Alabama, and Special Assistant to the Attorney General in Alabama
