Columbiana Mayor Pro Tem Tom Seale has a new position with another Shelby County city.

Seale was formally announced Monday as Pelham’s first finance director. He will also continue serving on the Columbiana council.

&uot;I’m looking forward to working with the citizens of Pelham,&uot; Seale said. &uot;It’s a wonderful opportunity.&uot;

&uot;There’s no question about his credentials,&uot; Pelham Mayor Bobby Hayes said. &uot;I believe Tom’s experience, knowledge and leadership skills will serve him well as our finance director. We look forward to working with Tom as Pelham continues to grow.&uot;

Seale will begin his new job May 9 with the support of Columbiana Mayor Allan Lowe. Hayes and Seale both talked with Lowe before the hire.

&uot;To quote Allan Lowe, if Tom does half the job for Pelham that he’s done for Columbiana, Pelham’s best days are ahead,&uot; Hayes said.

&uot;It’s a win-win for both cities.&uot;

City Clerk Peggy Bates, who currently oversees most of the city finances, will retire May 30.

Seale is the first known person in Shelby County to work for two cities.

Seale’s duties on the Columbiana council include preparing the annual budget, analyzing fiscal year income and expenses and investing city funds.

He also served as mayor for nearly eight months in 2003, while Lowe was fulfilling military duties.

Seale’s duties in Pelham will include providing the mayor, city council and department heads with &uot;current and accurate financial statements.&uot; He has 25 years of banking and financial experience.

Seale said there would be &uot;no potential conflict&uot; between his new duties and his council duties.

Hayes agrees.

&uot;He will continue to serve the city council. He wouldn’t think of interfering with that,&uot; Hayes said.

Seale’s civic involvement includes work with the Columbiana Fine Arts Center, the 18th Judicial Circuit Court’s Indigent Defense Commission, the Columbiana Downtown Revitalization Committee, the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System Advisory Board and Columbiana Dixie Youth Baseball.

the council:

* Approved retail table wine and beer licenses (off premises) for M&N Convenience Store, located at 1908 Highway 31.

* Approved retail table wine and beer licenses (on and off premises) for King Wang, located at 212 Cahaba Valley Road.

* Approved the rezoning of land located adjacent to Deer Ridge Lake Subdivision off County Road 336 from A-1 agricultural to R-1 residential.

* Approved the dedication of the following subdivisions and public streets as shown on final plats: The Ridge at Stonehaven Phase 1, The Ridge at Stonehaven Phase 2, The Village at Stonehaven Phase 2 and The Village at Stonehaven Phase 4
