Oak Mountain soccer coach Ryan Patridge pointed to a blue trophy sitting on a podium at the Huntsville Soccer Complex.

&uot;Either you can go and pick it up, or you can let Prattville take it from you,&uot; he said to his team, which entered Saturday’s 6A championship game as the top boys team in the state and the No. 1 high school team in the nation.

The Eagles on Saturday earned the hardware that was widely considered their’s for the taking since early this season.

Six different players scored for Oak Mountain (26-0-2) as the Eagles shut out Prattville 6-0 to claim the state title.

Patridge, who took over duties before the season when OMHS coach Derek Dearman left for military service in Iraq, said the victory fulfilled two team goals.

&uot;It was a constant thing throughout the season,&uot; Patridge said. &uot;They had sat down and said they wanted to hand (Dearman) a ring when he came back.&uot;

It also was the culmination of four years’ hard work for 11 senior players, Patridge said.

&uot;May 14 (the date of Saturday’s championship game) was our target date,&uot; he said. &uot;Our seniors wanted to be sure they were playing on that day.&uot;

Bryce Noel, Trey Gregory, Johnny Markey, Loy Vaughan, Eric Schauwecker and Clark Powell each scored goals for Oak Mountain.

Goalkeeper Dalton Huey got some defensive help from Schauwecker, Andrew Riley and Will Brown to earn the shutout.

Indian Springs Wins Title

Kavita Jariwala scored three goals in the 1A-4A championship game to lead Indian Springs to a 4-0 victory over Mars Hill Bible School.

Goalkeeper Emma Dinsmore earned the shutout for Indian Springs (20-4-3), which outshot its opponent 17-3.

Sarah Moore also scored for Indian Springs, converting an assist from Anchal Bansal to give the team its first goal in the championship game.

Rosalind Chaplin, a midfielder for top-ranked Indian Springs, was named the tournament MVP.

The girls soccer state championship is the second for Indian Springs.
