Seven county players named to North-South soccer squads

Seventy outstanding junior soccer players from across the state have been named to the North-South teams for the ninth annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week in Huntsville July 11-15, according to Steve Bailey, director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.

The two girls teams and two boys teams will square off in a Tuesday doubleheader July 12 at John Hunt Park, beginning with the girls’ game at 5 p.m. The boys’ contest begins at 7 p.m.

Sports Week, which also includes in-state all-star games in volleyball, baseball, basketball and softball, will feature clinic and special sessions for coaches, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. A product exposition and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week.

The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.

Named to the North Girls team from Shelby County are Raley Burnett and Katie Bolt of Oak Mountain and Laura Ketcham of Briarwood Christian.

North Boys team members from Shelby County are Loy Vaughn and Eric Schauwecker of Oak Mountain, Britton Farrell of Briarwood Christian and Kyle Gilbreath of Spain Park
