The Gobbler’s Knob Swim Team (GKST) became the Jefferson County Swim Council Division 3 Champions July 18 after a perfect 5-0 season.

The 143-member team outperformed six other teams to win its division at Inverness Country Club.

Forty-eight GKST swimmers qualified for the Senior County Championships held July 30-31 at the Hoover Recreation Center. To qualify, swimmers had to beat minimum time standards for each event established by USA Swimming for each age and gender.

The Senior County Championships is the premier swimming event in the Birmingham area for summer swimmers who are 5-18 years old. Some 24 teams from across the area competed for the Senior County Championship.

GKST swimmers placed in many of the 82 events and finished a strong ninth, compared to a 16th place finish in 2004.

Chris Shiflett was the individual high point winner for his age group.

The following athletes placed in their groups: Geoffrey Fuglaar, fifth; Emily Logan, sixth; Richard Ketchum and Matthew Theodoras, 11th; and Kelsey Williams and Amanda Logan, 12th
