Fordham, Hope lead Eagles in Oak Mountain jamboree

Oak Mountain football coach Jerry Hood praised the play of his offensive and defensive lines as the Eagles took care of 5A Shelby County, 13-0, in Friday night’s high school football jamboree at Heardmont Park.

Quarterback Richie Fordham led 6A Oak Mountain to its only touchdown with a 35-yard scoring strike to James Hope.

Ryan Shoemaker converted two field goal attempts for the Eagles in the two-quarter contest.

Gadsden defeated Chelsea in the other game despite a 70-yard scoring drive mounted by the Hornets to open the contest.

Billy Barnhill scored from one yard out for Chelsea and Davin Palmer rushed for 48 yards on five carries.

&uot;He’s a good kid and a hard worker,&uot; Chelsea coach Watt Parker said of Palmer, who also caught two passes for 30 yards. &uot;He blocks as hard as he runs the ball.&uot;

In other jamboree games:

u Pelham defeated Walker, 14-10, thanks to a fumble recovery in the end zone by J.T. King.

u Nathaniel Carlson caught two touchdowns as Briarwood beat Shades Valley, 14-2.

u T.J. Green threw two touchdown passes for Calera as the Eagles fell to Oneonta, 20-13, at home last Thursday night
