Archie Giles, 56, of Calera died Aug. 18, 2005. He was born Jan. 29, 1949, in Calera. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Calera and was retired from ABC Rail after 27-and-a-half years. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Giles; his mother, Lela Giles; and his brothers, Martis and Travis Giles.

He is survived by his wife, Delia Giles; his mother-in-law; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; a sister and brothers-in-law; and a host of friends.

Service was Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. at Bolton-Letlow Chapel with burial following in Salem Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

John Carroll Morris Sr., 78, of Childersburg died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy C. Morris.

He is survived by two sons, John C. (June) Morris Jr. of Wilsonville and James A. &uot;Sonny&uot; (Rosie) Morris of Eastaboga; two daughters, Doris Zelinda (Ricky) Ogle of Childersburg and Dorothy Quinell (Michael) Morris of Clanton; two brothers, twin James Harrell Morris of Shelby and Fernwood Morris of Haleyville; two sisters, Dora Sigona of Phoenix, Ariz., and Juanita Whitson of Shelby; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Service was Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel, the Rev. David Mann and Michael Morris presiding. Burial followed in Greenhill Memorial Gardens, Curtis and Son directing.

Joe Pate, 77, of Shelby died Aug. 31, 2005. He was born Aug. 228, 1928, in Sylacauga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Pate.

He is survived by his daughters, Gayla (Williams) Connell of Shelby and Sharon (Lynn) Tickle of Ridgeland, Miss.; sons, Tony Pate of Cullman, Wayne (Darlene) Pate of Columbiana and Brian Pate of Wilsonville; grandchildren, Nelson Connell, Brandon Connell, Karen Jackson, Carla Henderson, Brooke Connell and Candice Pate; great-grandchildren, Cameron Jackson, Alloura Jackson, Kaelee Connell and Austin Henderson; and his sisters, Helena Brasher and Dottie Estock of Shelby.

Service was Sept. 2 at Shelby Church of God, the Rev. Kenneth McDonald and Josh Beane presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Garden of Rest, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

Raymond Patterson, 75, of Olive Branch, Miss., and formerly of Columbiana, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005. He was born Feb. 14, 1939, in Etowah County.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Patterson; his daughter, Regina (Allen) Thornburg; his grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) Thornburg and Tiffany (Brent) Moore; his great-grandchildren, Hunter Moore, Mary Beth Moore and Peyton Thornburg; three brothers, R.D. Patterson, Calvin Patterson and Jerry Patterson; and two sisters, Jean Davis and Margaret Edwards.

Coleman Brown &uot;Buddy&uot; Pennington, 66, of Columbiana died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at home. He was born March 4, 1939, in Margaret, Ala. He retired from Cowin Equipment in 2000 and moved to Columbiana. He was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by his father, H.L. &uot;Snake&uot; Pennington, and his brother, Ronnie Pennington.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Pennington; his daughter, Marie Pennington; his son, Lee Pennington; his mother, Pauline (Pento) Pennington; his sister, Barbara (Ronnie) Whitehead, all of Columbiana; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Service was Sept. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at his home, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Shelby County Humane Society.

Jeffrey Madison Scott, 45, of Helena died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005. He was a graduate of Valley High School and Birmingham-Southern College. He was a member of the Buck Creek Gospel Bank and a member of the Helena United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Machinery Dealers National Association, former chairman of the Southeast MDNA, a member of the European Association of Machine Tool Merchants. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Scott Jr. and Chester and Polly Jones and his father-in-law, Dr. E.L. Willey.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Ann Scott; his parents, Peggy and George Scott III; his brothers, George E. Scott IV and Michael (LeighAnn) Scott; his sister, Michelle (Henry) Johnson; his mother-in-law, Lola (Bob) Severin; his brothers-in-law, Steve (Marcia) Willey, Jim (Julie) Willey and Jeffrey Willey; his grandparents, Jim and Juanita Ridge and Issa Scott; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Lois Catherine Walton, 81, of Birmingham, formerly of Columbiana died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Talladega Springs, Ala. She was a member of the Roebuck Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by her children, Bobbie (Jack) Samples and Lewis Franklin &uot;Butch&uot; Walton, all of Birmingham, and Donna (Wiley) Bibb of Prattville; two grandchildren, Denna (Johnny) Brown and Carime Bibb; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Ally Brown; one sister, Lucille Wade of Pensacola, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
