FROM STAFF REPORTS

A methamphetamine bust in Harpersville conducted by the Shelby County Drug Task Force on Aug. 27 left one person in custody and another on the run.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a travel camper located at 35071 Highway 25 in Harpersville to execute arrest warrants for Jason Alan Coley and Johnny Eugene White.

When deputies arrived, they found Coley and White leaving the camper with a third person, Glenn Edward Pierson Jr.

White was arrested at the scene but Coley was able to flee on foot and remains at large.

The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force responded to the scene after deputies observed methamphetamine precursor chemicals present within and around the camper.

Task Force investigators determined that methamphetamine had been manufactured within the camper in the past and that all of the necessary precursor ingredients were present for future methamphetamine manufacture.

The Task Force contacted the Drug Enforcement Administration and in turn a hazardous materials clean-up team responded to the scene.

All of the chemicals and materials used to manufacture methamphetamine were seized and the site was rendered safe.

White, 32, and Coley, 30, were both charged with the unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Their bonds were each set at $23,000.

Pierson, 22, is currently being held by the Shelby County Sheriff’s office and could be charged with the unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $36,000.
