Lallouise McGraw, 100, of Vincent died peacefully Monday, Oct. 10, 2005 at home. She was born Sept. 8, 1905, in Harpersville to C.H. and Lala Rook Florey and attended Alabama College in Montevallo and Birmingham Conservatory of Music with further studies at Glendale College in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Birmingham Southern College in March 1954. She married Richard T. McGraw on June 26, 1926 establishing their home in Vincent. She was a gracious lady, pioneer, leader and Christian who served her state, county, community and God. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Vincent where she served faithfully as pianist, organist, director of music, a Sunday School teacher, youth leader and on many committees. She was chairman of Shelby County Board of Registrars, organized the Vincent Study Club in 1927 and worked with Community Improvement Program of General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

She was also the president of the Sylacauga Garden Club and Vincent PTA. She was appointed to the Shelby County Library Board in 1938, the Alabama Voters Hall of Fame and established the Vincent Lallouise F. McGraw Public Library, receiving the Alabama Library Association’s 1992-93 Humanitarian Award. With all this, she felt her greatest contribution was the students she taught piano and voice to for 51 years, many of whom continue to serve in churches.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.H. and Lala Rook Florey; her brothers, Lamar Florey and Carter Florey; and her husband.

She is survived by four sons, James C. McGraw of Vincent, Richard T. McGraw of Pelham, Fred A. (Pat) of Grove Hill and John O. (Grace) of Birmingham; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Service was at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13 at First Baptist in Vincent. Burial followed in Vincent City Cemetery,
