Carrie Melissa Norwood of Pelham has been elected to membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing through Nu Chapter at the School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Sigma Theta Tau works to foster, develop and connect nurse scholars and leaders worldwide to improve healthcare.

The society promotes nursing excellence through its initiatives in research, leadership and scholarship as well as providing and electronic library and several publications.

More than 300,000 nurse scholars have been inducted into Sigma Theta Tau.

With 115,000 active members, it is the second largest and one if the most prestigious nursing organizations in the world.

The society’s members are active in 423 chapters, in more than 85 countries and territories
