School Honors for April 5, 2006

Adams receives $22,500 scholarship

Lance Adams of Alabaster is the recipient of a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham University Scholars Award, valued at an estimated $22,500.

The son of Clell and Tammy Adams of Alabaster, he plans to major in political science at UAB.

Adams is a senior at Thompson High School, where he is the senior Student Government Association representative and debate team member.

Harris receives UAB scholarship

Brittney Harris of Alabaster is the recipient of a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham University Scholars Award valued at an estimated $22,500.

She is the daughter of Alan and Wendy Harris of Alabaster.

Harris is a senior at Thompson High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the Drama Club.

Harper wins DAR Good Citizen essay

The David Lindsay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently named Meredith Harper the winner of the chapter’s Good Citizen Essay Contest.

Her essay won the district contest and placed third in the state.

Harper is a senior at Thompson High School where she has received numerous honors. She scored a 35 out of a possible 36 on the ACT and has been named class valedictorian. She plans to attend the University of Alabama.

Students earn degrees from AUM

Auburn University at Montgomery held its fall commencement ceremonies in December with 308 students receiving degrees. Local students who graduated were Joshua Matthew Harden and Loretta Diane Westry of Calera and Robert T. Clark and Monquelle DeAnna Shamburger, both of Helena. In addition, Hoover resident Robert DeWayne Hamilton was named to the Dean’s List
