The Alabama 4-H Center at 892 4H Road in Columbiana has applied for a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to discharge treated wastewater into the waters of the state of Alabama.

According to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) the request is for the reissuance of a permit limiting the discharge of pollutants from treated domestic wastewater for the purpose of meeting federal and state water quality standards from the Alabama 4H Center to the Coosa River.

The river (Lay Lake) is classified as a Public Water Supply, Swimming,

and Fish and Wildlife in the Coosa River basin.

According to ADEM, the department has tentatively determined that the proposed action is consistent with Water Quality Rules and Regulations.
