St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is a parish of the church in the Diocese of Alabama and is located in Montevallo.

The church currently has 86 baptized members in regular attendance and is led by the Rev. Dr. James F. Tuohy.

&8220;We are currently a community of baptized members worshipping God in Christ around his table and in the world, reaching out to meet the spiritual and material needs of our neighbors, especially the University of Montevallo community,&8221; Tuohy said.

St. Andrew’s was founded in the 1860s by a group of members that first met in the local Masonic Hall. The church moved to its current building in the 1950s and continued to grow and flourish in the local Montevallo community.

Dr. Tuohy began to serve as rector of the church in 1999 and the Rev. Deacon Steve R. Shanks began serving as a deacon in Nov. 2004.

Tuohy received his doctorate of ministry from Vanderbilt divinity School in 1978 and received his master’s of divinity from All Hallows College in Dublin, Ireland. Before coming to St. Andrew’s Tuohy served as rector of St. Michael and All Angels in Anniston and as priest associate at St. Andrew’s.

The church’s mission statement says, &8220;By proclaiming the love of Christ around His table and in the world, we will build a stronger church family through strengthening of the ministries to college students, youth, adults and the greater community.&8221;
