The Shelby County Wildcats fell short against Jess Lanier Saturday night in the final round of the Shelby County Thanksgiving Classic in Columbiana, losing 67-59.

Wildcats head coach Charles Dickinson said his team’s lack of intensity contributed to Shelby County’s loss.

&8220;We didn’t have any intensity.&8221; he said. &8220;I thought we played very inconsistent.&8221;

Dickinson said the third quarter has been kind to the Wildcats so far this season, but Saturday night he thought his team struggled in that period.

&8220;The third quarter has always been the best quarter for us,&8221; he said. &8220;But tonight it was by far our worst.&8221;

The Wildcats fell behind Jess Lanier by as many as eight points late in the fourth quarter, but senior Josh Dikis hit two big three pointers for the ‘Cats to bring them within one.

That’s as close as Shelby County would get, however, as Jess Lanier pulled away in the final minutes. Dikis and Cortez Cotton, who finished with a team-high 24 points in the loss, were named to the all-tournament team for Shelby County.

John Carroll 73, Spain Park 50
