Bria Burns, an 11-year-old sixth grader from Vincent Middle/High School, is Shelby County Reporter Student of the Week.

Vincent Middle principal Gary Minnick selected her for the honor.

&8220;Bria Burns is a wonderful young lady and student. She is a hard worker with a polite and cheerful personality,&8221; Minnick said. &8220;She gets great grades and is always respectful of her classmates, teachers and others.&8221;

Bria is the daughter of Bridgette and Tyrone Smith and the granddaughter of Linda and Joseph McGraw.

She said her favorite subject in school is band.

&8220;Because I’m very interested in music (mostly R&B … rhythm and blues).&8221;

She said her favorite teacher is Spence Payne who taught her fifth grade science, math and social studies, &8220;because he was fun and very active.&8221;

Among recognitions Bria has received are the perfect attendance award for six years and other honors such as being named to the AB Honor Roll.

She likes to swim and play softball for the &8220;Untouchables,&8221; a Vincent league team.

She plays clarinet and sings in the choir at her church, Coosa Valley Baptist Church.

Bria said her favorite superhero is Oprah Winfrey.

&8220;Because she’s not like other rich people who kind of hold their money. She gives to charity.&8221;

Bria plans to attend college at the University of Alabama because her mother attended college there, and &8220;I believe it is a very great school.&8221;

When she grows up, Bria said, she wants to be an obstetrician because, &8220;I think it’s exciting.&8221;

She said she wants to help deliver babies.

&8220;I like babies and stuff.&8221;
