When Thompson’s Gary Cunningham hit a 24-footer with seven seconds left to pull ahead of Oak Mountain, 46-45, Friday night, the Warriors thought they had the game won.

But the Eagles’ Tyler Gallimore sunk a buzzer-beater to defeat the Warriors, 46-48, in the Class 6A, Region 6 matchup.

The victory moved Oak Mountain to 5-1 on the season and dropped Thompson to 1-4.

The Warriors dominated Oak Mountain on the glass, raking in 33 rebounds over the Eagles’ 17. The two teams went step-for-step the entire game with neither squad leading by more than six points.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Thomas Nordyke with 13 points and five rebounds while Thompson was led by Cunningham, who finished with 13 points.

Kingwood Christian 57, Taylor Road 49

The Kingwood Christian boys advanced their win streak to seven games, remaining unbeaten this season with a 57-49 victory over Taylor Road.

The Lions’ Cody Owens scored 22 points and has 10 boards in the game. Kingwood host Meadowview this Monday.

Shelby Academy 52, Bessemer Academy 51

The Raiders’ Ronnie West hit a three-point shot with less than 30 seconds left to go to edge Bessemer Academy, 52-51, Saturday in the AISA matchup.

West led the Raiders in scoring for the game, finishing with 27 points and eight rebounds.

Calera 89, Vincent 82

The Calera Eagles edged cross-county rival Vincent, 89-82, Friday night with the help of J.J. Snell, Kyle Nichols and T.J. Green.

All three players scored six points for the Eagles in the final quarter to give their team the victory.

Green finished the game with 28 points while Nichols netted 20 in the win. The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring by Cameron Posey, who matched Green with 28 points in the loss. Vincent hosts Holy Family this Thursday while Calera welcomes Childersburg on Saturday.

Briarwood 39, Montevallo 33

The Briarwood Lions pulled away from the Bulldogs in the second half Friday night for a 39-33 victory, after the two teams played a low scoring first half.

&8220;We bounced back from a really difficult loss to Chilton County to win,&8221; Briarwood head coach Chris Laatsch said after the game.

The Lions used a full-court press in the second half to wear down the Bulldogs.

&8220;The press got us going a little bit,&8221; Laatsch said. &8220;It made the game more up-tempo.&8221;

Briarwood’s Drew Faulk made a number of big plays for the Lions in the game’s final quarter, making three steals and scoring nine points in the victory.

&8220;He’s a real sparkplug for us,&8221; Laatsch said.

The Lions host Oxford on Friday night and travel to McAdory on Saturday. Montevallo travels to Bibb County on Friday and host Oak Grove on Saturday.

Pelham 62, Parkway Christian 48

Robert Hatcher led the Panthers Friday night with 23 points as Pelham dropped Parkway Christian, 62-48, at home.

Hatcher was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line and hit four three-pointers in the win. Pelham’s Stephen Clark at 23 points in the game
