Maylene resident earns honor

Megan Marie Todhunter of Maylene has been awarded an academic honor from Who’s Who Among American High School Students for the 2005-06 school year.

Todhunter earned this honor for her academic abilities.

She is a sophomore at Hope Christian School in Pelham.

She is the daughter of Mark and Penny Todhunter of Maylene. Grandparents are James and Brenda Wheeler of Wilsonville, Mary Todhunter of Helena and Joe Todhunter of Alabaster.

Calera resident earns USM master&8217;s

Edward Jerell Horton of Calera earned his master&8217;s degree in music education from the University of Southern Mississippi.

He received his degree along with some 1,200 other students during Southern Miss&8217;s fall 2005 commencement exercises.

THS senior receives scholarship

Chase Burnette of Alabaster has received a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham University Scholars Award of $22,500.

He is the son of Roger and Cheryl Burnette of Alabaster.

He is a senior at Thompson High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Team and Mu Alpha Theta.

OLV student will attend conference

Maegan Marie Kendall, a seventh grader at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School in Shelby County, has been selected to attend the 2006 National Junior Leaders Conference, sponsored by LeadAmerica at Johns Hopkins University in the Washington D.C. area.

The NJLC is a leadership program for promising young leaders from the across the U.S. and internationally. Middle and junior high school students with a record of academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement participate in the program.

Kendall chose Law and Trial Advocacy as her area of study. Through briefings and discussions with national and international leaders in the field of study and realistic, hands-on simulations, she will experience leadership in action and learn firsthand about the complexities of decision making.

The interactive workshops and activities will allow her to develop and learn vital leadership skills including effective communication, conflict resolution, team building and time management
