The Thompson Warriors picked up their ninth win Friday night against the Hoover Bucs, 47-35, despite playing a uninspired first half, Eagles’ head coach Jerry North said.

&8220;We played very sluggish in the first half and got in trouble early,&8221; North said. &8220;We didn’t have a whole lot of effort.&8221;

The Eagles, 9-1 this season overall and ranked No. 8 in boy’s Class 6A, took a meager two-point lead into the break, 21-19.

In the locker room, North said he told his team to pick up their game.

&8220;I told them we got out-hustled in the first half and we would have to play better if we wanted a chance to win.&8221;

The Eagles did play better, opening up a 14-point lead early in the fourth quarter and eventually winning the Region 6 matchup.

OMHS’s Justin Luquire led Oak Mountain in scoring with 16 points. Thomas Nordyke finished with 14.

Thompson is currently playing in the Shelby County Tournament at Oak Mountain.

Kingwood 62, Glenwood 42: The Kingwood Lions continued their early season dominance Saturday afternoon, defeating Glenwood School, 62-42, to claim first place in the Kingwood Christian Christmas Tournament and move their overall record to 12-0.

Cody Owens led the unbeaten Lions in scoring, netting 20 points and earning six rebounds and four steals.

Nick Holcombe added 17 points and Adam Irby scored nine in the game.

Kingwood’s Adam Pearce was named MVP of the tournament despite not scoring a point in the final game.

Pearce aided his team in other ways, however, finishing with 12 assists and six steals to defeat the Gators.

Spain Park 62, Shades Valley 47: The Spain Park Jaguars soundly defeated Shades Valley Saturday, holding the Mounties to 19 points in the first two quarters and eventually winning, 62-47.

William Green led the Jags in scoring with 12 points while teammate Jake Drum added 10.

The Jags shot 15-of-16 from the free throw line as they prepare for their home tournament, the Sneaky Pete’s Jaguar Classic, which begins today.

Indian Springs 55, St. Bernard 40: Indian Springs’ John Bains hit five three-pointers Saturday night to down St. Bernard in the third-place game of the Moody Invitational, 55-40.

Bains finished with 25 points and was named MVP of the tournament while teammate Chase Nelson added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Patrick McGowan had eight points, four assists and four steals for Indian Springs.

Calera 75, Tarrant 74: The Calera Eagles defeated Tarrant in a close game Saturday, 75-74.

On Friday night the Eagles put up 109 points on Shades Mountain Christian in a blowout win, 109-49.

T.J. Green scored 29 points and had 11 assists for Calera while teammate Demarcus Dowdell netted 23 points. Kyle Nichols added 17 for the Eagles in the win.

The Eagles are currently playing in the Shelby County tournament at Oak Mountain.

Vestavia Hills 60, Pelham 35: The Pelham Panthers fell to 2-10 overall Friday night, losing to the Vestavia Hills Rebels, 60-35.

The Panthers were led in scoring in the loss by Robert Hatcher, who finished with 15 points while teammate Stephen Clark netted 13 points.

Pelham is currently participating in the Shelby County tournament this week at Oak Mountain.

Shelby County 73, Chelsea 50: The Shelby County Wildcats topped the Chelsea Hornets Friday night, 73-50.

Mike Moore netted a team-high 26 points and finished with 10 boards and five blocked shots for the Wildcats.

Devin Palmer finished with 18 points for Chelsea.

Both teams are currently participating in the Shelby County tournament at Oak Mountain
